We install a variety of brick for flooring and walkways. Integrating brick and natural stone into a building adds a sense of fortitude and solidarity to the structure ensuring a time honored architectural style that will last generations. We have observed in our renovation work over the years that many of the construction methods used decades ago were used to ensure a long life as compared to many methods used today. Laminate, floating wood floors of today will not sustain the strength, beauty and durability of solid wood flooring built into the structure. Solid wood flooring will last decades or even centuries as compared to floating floors that will be replaced in ten years for a new disposable floor. Hence it is misleading when a real estate ad boast of wood floors in a house for sale when it is only a laminate. A caveat emptor for the buyer.
We have installed many brick floors and walkways over the years which have added to the value of the properties with age. Exterior walkways and driveways can have radiant snow melting equipment installed underneath for winters ensured of ice free traversing. Interior brick flooring can define the living space and guide the movement and passageways throughout the house. Interior brick is also very amenable to radiant floor heating systems as the mass of the brick can absorb the heat energy and hold it for a long time. If you have ever had radiant heating in your house you will never want to go back to other heating systems.
Generally clay bricks come in 2 distinct sizes - pavers and modular. Pavers are a true 4"x 8" x 2.25" size and are the more common. The length being twice the width allows for a wide variety of patterns from common bond to herring bone. These are also called pattern bricks and can vary in size but the length is always twice the width. Modular bricks are 3 5/8" x 7 5/8" and do not conform to a perpendicular pattern
